Heathfield is a visionary combination of the traditional and contemporary. The traditional includes stone, wood and slate whilst the contemporary can be found in the architecture, the tower, open plan design and vast glazed openings. Superbly designed and offering country house living adapted to the 21st century Heathfield is impressive yet remains manageable.
Situated on a private road and enjoying far reaching views towards Oxford and its panoramic views of the countryside and South Oxford, Heathfield enjoys an elevated location overlooking its own private and landscaped grounds of nearly one acre.
At the centre of the house and very much the focus of the design is a tower with an impressive circular hall tiled in stone with a striking central motif. To the ground floor is a natural stone floor and striking contemporary staircase of steel and American Walnut rising through all five storeys from the basement to the third floor tower study and viewing gallery. The south wing includes a study and a very impressive drawing room with doors opening onto the private terrace and with views over the gardens to the fields beyond. The north wing, largely open plan, includes a dining room with glazed wall and vaulted partially glazed ceiling opening to the galleried first floor over. The north wing is subdivided into two further zones with a kitchen/breakfast area and a large family room. The family room is triple aspect with large glass screens opening onto the garden terraces and also enjoying an open aspect over the gardens to the fields at the rear. Beyond the kitchen is a spacious utility room and second cloakroom.
From the main hall the staircase descends to the basement floor. In addition to a wine cellar, and utility room there is a home cinema. The basement also houses the plant room where the Ground Source Heat Pump is located. This provides heating and hot water for the house in a sustainable and economic way. Geothermal energy substantially reduces the use of fossil fuels.
Returning to the hall the circular and galleried staircase rises to the first floor and approached directly off the galleried landing is a very substantial master suite, three further bedrooms and family bathroom.
The staircase continues to rise to the second floor with doors off to two further en-suite rooms. On the third floor is the tower study and the truly unique viewing gallery with long distance views over South Oxfordshire.
